This policy explains how the Bay Translate browser extension handles your data. Bay Translate has a single purpose: translating the foreign-language web page you are viewing into the language you choose, showing the translation where the original text was.
What we process
Website content. Bay Translate reads the text of the page you are viewing, detects its language and translates it on your device, then shows the translation in place. Page text and translations are processed only on your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Settings. The auto-translate switch, your languages, the rules you set for websites (including those sites' domain names), the glossary, appearance and interface language, and language pack download progress. They are kept locally in your browser and are never synced or uploaded.
Translation cache. To avoid translating the same text twice, translations are kept in memory and cleared when the browser closes or the extension's background stops.
Network and language packs
Apart from downloading language packs, Bay Translate does not go online. The first time a language is used, its language pack is downloaded. After installation, Bay Translate also downloads the packs for common languages in the background (about 0.6–1.6 GB depending on the browser); you can pause this or turn off “Prepare common language packs” under Appearance & settings.
Language packs are downloaded by your browser, under the browser vendor's (Google's or Microsoft's) privacy policy. Download requests never include page content, translations or browsing history.
What we do not do
We do not collect personally identifiable information, and no account is needed.
We do not sell user data or transfer it to any third party.
We do not use data for anything other than translation: no advertising, analytics, creditworthiness or lending.
Bay Translate's use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
